Membership In the Virginia Trucking Association

  • Legislative Representation

The VTA is the “voice of trucking in Virginia,” making itself heard in the General Assembly and working with the American Trucking Associations in the halls of Congress.  On many occasions, the VTA is the only road block that stands in the way of increased taxation and burdensome regulations. Not only does VTA lobby for trucking interests, it helps elect pro-trucking candidates through campaign contributions from its political action committee – the Truckers PAC of Virginia.

  • Information Services

The VTA provides its members with a series of informational services. These include:

  • VTA NewsCarrier – an e-mail newsletter containing legal, industry and association news
  • VTA Traffic Alerts - a weekly listing of road and lane closures on interstates and primary routes in Virginia
  • Truckers in Action – a members-only newsletter published during the General Assembly to provide news and alerts about legislation that impacts trucking.
  • Special Reports – members get important, late-breaking news via e-mail.
  • Virginia Trucking (VTA’s annual magazine)

  • Regulatory Advocacy

The VTA represents the industry on issues and problems before all governmental agencies and regulatory bodies dealing with truck transportation at local, state and national levels. With its years of experience, the VTA staff has the contacts within state agencies to get the answers and assistance you need.

  • Compliance Assistance & Information

The VTA’s experienced staff is oftentimes involved in the writing of trucking laws and regulations.  Members receive access to their expertise and compliance assistance.

  • Trucking Industry Safety & Human Resources

Through its Safety & Human Resources Management Council, the VTA conducts a number of safety initiatives in cooperation with all governmental and safety agencies to reduce highway and traffic losses and to improve the public’s perception and acceptance of the trucking industry. These include quarterly meetings, an annual conference, safety award programs, the Virginia Truck Driving Championships, Safety Breaks, and No-Zone programs.
